MEXICO CITY, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- During the seventh "Mexican Housing Day," the Mexican housing sector will showcase strengths and opportunities for investment in the sector for analysts and investors from the international financial community.

Convened by Mexico's key real estate developers (Ara, Geo, Sare, Homex, Urbi, Consorcio Hogar), public housing agencies (INFONAVIT, FOVISSSTE, SHF and Conavi) will attend the event as well as financial intermediaries in order to highlight the housing sector's prospects and the investment opportunities it affords.

Among the presenters at the New York gathering will be Ernesto Cordero, Secretary of the Treasury and Public Credit; Heriberto Felix Guerra, Secretary of Social Development; Luis Tellez, President of the Mexican Securities Exchange; and Ignacio Deschamps, President of the Asociacion de Bancos de Mexico (Association of Banks of Mexico).

The results achieved in housing in 2009 are evidence that the sector remains dynamic and strong, and continues to generate substantial economic activity.

The demand for housing is massive. According to forecasts, over the next 20 years, the challenge for the sector will be to provide more than 11 million additional housing units, without taking into account those that must be restored because of deterioration.

Without venturing to predict that 2010 will be one of the best years for the sector, a significant improvement has been noted compared to the prospects at the start of 2009, with the strength of having weathered the hardest part of the crisis with a sector that is consolidated, coordinated, and cooperative.

It is in this context that the seventh edition of Mexican Housing Day will be held, a place where investors and expert analysts can witness first hand the federal government's commitment to sustaining public housing policy, the 2010 credit targets of public housing agencies and private financial intermediaries, as well as Mexico's macroeconomic prospects and the priorities that have been established with regard to social policy.
